Trailer technology is becoming about more than tracking a dot on a map. Schmitz Cargobull’s August announcement links its TrailerConnect portal with TRAVIS, a European platform for finding and booking wash bays and parking.
Dispatchers can view trailers and nearby services together. Cleaning stops can be incorporated into planning, with cleaning certificates managed in TrailerConnect. At announcement, bookings ran through TrailerConnect while payments were handled on the TRAVIS platform.
A useful booking is more than a pin on a map.
Our technology test would start with the handover: can the dispatcher see an appropriate service, can the driver use the booking, and can the office retrieve the right evidence afterwards? Putting information in one interface is useful only if the underlying service and records match the job.
For a South African operator, this European announcement is a design idea to watch—not proof of local coverage. Before adopting a similar system, check which facilities are actually connected, the charges and cancellation terms, and who handles a failed booking.
